Twitter (now X) has honored Arshad Nadeem with its rare gold badge, a distinction reserved for Olympic gold medalists, in recognition of his world record-breaking achievement in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics.

Entering the competition as an underdog, Nadeem, who was less well-known compared to his Indian counterpart Neeraj Chopra, stunned the world with his performance at the Stade de France on Thursday night. By clinching the gold in the men’s javelin final, Nadeem made history as the first track and field athlete from Pakistan to win an Olympic gold medal.

Nadeem’s triumph was a remarkable display of skill and determination. He surpassed his long-time rival and friend Neeraj Chopra and broke the Olympic record in the process. The previous record of 90.57 meters, set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, was eclipsed when Nadeem’s second throw landed at an astonishing 92.97 meters. The crowd erupted in astonished cheers as the distance was announced.

With his arms raised in joy and disbelief, Nadeem watched as the new record was displayed, marking the longest throw in the world this year.
