Kunal Kemmu ‘s comedy caper film Madgaon Express faced off at the box office with another managerial debut, Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Both movies start in a tight contest on day one at the box office. While both actors have received credit for their experience through the course of their careers, they’re now receiving mixed reviews for their managerial capabilities. Madgaon Express, starring an ensemble cast agreeing of Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, Avinash Tiwary, Nora Fatehi, Upendra Limaye and Chhaya Kadam, is backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. According to Sacnilk, an industry tracking website, Madgaon Express ’ day- one collection stands at Rs1.50 crore. still, according to Excel Entertainemnt, the film, on Friday, minted Rs1.63 crore gross on day 1. The film is hoped to perform better over the weekend because of the forthcoming Holi break.
Madgaon Express witnessed a11.08 percent overall occupation on Friday, with nearly17.05 percent of the cine- goers catching the night shows. In Mumbai, with 447 shows, an occupation of13.25 percent was observed. In Delhi and NCR, where there were 510 shows, the occupation was8.25 percent. The loftiest occupation was observed in Chennai with28.67 percent but from a bare 19 shows. The Savarkar biopic, on the other hand, made Rs1.15 crore on day one.
Kunal’s managerial debut is entering a lot of love from the audiences so far, still, The Indian Express ’ Shubhra Gupta compared it unfavourably to Farhan Akhtar’s managerial debut Dil Chahta Hai movie, starring Aamir Khan, Akshay , Farhan Preity Zinta, Sonali and Dimple , and others. She called it “ An unfunny, unfulfilling Dil Chahta Hai wannabe, ” and gave it a one- and-a-half star rank.
